How to Make Brazilian Caipirinha

As probably the most known Brazilian cocktail, Caipirinha is popular among Brazilian steakhouses and BBQ gatherings everywhere.

Although many people make the cocktail with vodka, the original recipe is made with Brazilian Cachaça - a spicy, sweet, and fruity clear liquor distilled from fermented sugarcane juice.

Everyone has their own way of making caipirinha (kai-purr-REEN-yah), but the basis consists of: alcohol (cachaça or vodka) + fruit + sugar + ice. The classic version uses lime, though you can also try fruits such as strawberry, pineapple, passion fruit, and even mix two of them.

Since there is no mystery on how to prepare it, let’s hit the ingredients:

Ingredients:

3 lemons

50ml or 1.7 fl oz of cachaça/vodka

3 teaspoons of sugar

Ice

How to prepare:

  1. Cut the lemons into medium cubes or slices and place in a cocktail shaker, add the sugar and mash with a punch.
  2. Add cachaça and ice. Shake well and serve in a glass.

There you have a nice, fresh cocktail to try out in Summer!
